TV Olympics: Favorite Cast-Performed Song

Today launches our final mini-poll event, cast-performed songs! A week from today we’ll tally the medals and see who won the 2012 TV Olympics! The current top shows only have 6-8 medals so this is still very much any show’s game!

If you have more nominations for this poll, please leave them in the comments! Songs should be from scripted live-action shows, and be performed (at least in part) by cast members. Lip-synching (sorry, Supernatural fans who nominated “Eye of the Tiger”) and guest star only performances aren’t eligible. We’re also excluding songs from all-musical shows like Glee and Smash (there would simply be too many options).

Since this poll focuses on musical performances, I’ve created a playlist for the songs that I could find on YouTube. Of course the quality of the videos will vary, with some being lyrics or photos only, and there were several I was unable to find (also, several won’t embed). Listen for help in making this very hard choice!

I will make it a little easier on you, though: Since this is the final poll of the event, you can select 10 options instead of the usual 3!

This poll will be open for one week, and remember, you can choose up to 10 options. Please spread the word so your favorites will win medals, and be sure to vote in all our current Olympic polls!

What's your favorite cast-performed song? (Choose up to 10!)

TV Olympics: Favorite Hero/Villain Performance

In this penultimate round of the TV Olympics, we’re looking at actors who have excelled at playing both heroes and villains. Two distinct roles in two different shows were nominated, and now, based on those two performances, it’s time for you to judge which actor embraced their good guy and bad guy sides best.

I know there could have been other roles nominated for these actors, but I went with your suggestions – Nathan Fillion was nominated for Firefly, not Castle, and Jensen Ackles had more votes for Dark Angel than Smallville. There’s still room to nominate additional actors who have played both heroes and villains, but both roles must be on different TV shows (no movies), and the actor should be a main cast member in at least one of those shows.

Tomorrow, the final mini-poll event, cast-performed songs (nominate away, but avoid all-musical shows), will launch, and a week from then we will tally the medals and see who won the 2012 TV Olympics! The current top shows only have 6-8 medals so this is still very much any show’s game!

This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 3 options. Please spread the word so your favorites will win medals, and be sure to vote in all our current Olympic polls!

What's your favorite hero/villain performance by the same actor on different shows? (Choose up to 3!)

  • Timothy Omundson - Carlton Lassiter (hero) on Psych, Phil Constantino (villain) on Jericho (31%, 878 Votes)
  • Jensen Ackles – Dean Winchester (hero) on Supernatural, Ben/X5-493 (villain) on Dark Angel (25%, 716 Votes)
  • Nathan Fillion - Malcolm Reynolds (hero) on Firefly, Caleb (villain) on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (9%, 263 Votes)
  • Christian Kane - Eliot Spencer (hero) on Leverage, Lindsey McDonald (villain) on Angel (8%, 240 Votes)
  • Tim DeKay - Peter Burke (hero) on White Collar, Kieran Ryker (villain) on Chuck (8%, 225 Votes)
  • Leonard Nimoy - Spock (hero) on Star Trek, William Bell (villain) on Fringe (5%, 155 Votes)
  • Tiffani Thiessen - Elizabeth Burke (hero) on White Collar, Valerie Malone (villain) on Beverly Hills, 90210 (3%, 90 Votes)
  • Ross McCall – Joe Liebgott (hero) on Band of Brothers, Matthew Keller (villain) on White Collar (2%, 64 Votes)
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar - Buffy Summers (hero) on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Siobhan Martin (villain) on Ringer (2%, 60 Votes)
  • Gina Torres - Zoe Washburne (hero) on Firefly, Jasmine (villain) on Angel (2%, 55 Votes)
  • Michael Emerson - Harold Finch (hero) on Person of Interest, Ben Linus (villain) on Lost (2%, 44 Votes)
  • Morena Baccarin - Inara Serra (hero) on Firefly, Anna (villain) on V (1%, 38 Votes)
  • Enrico Colantoni - Keith Mars (hero) on Veronica Mars, Elias (villain) on Person of Interest (1%, 26 Votes)

TV Olympics: Favorite TV Animal

For this round of our TV Show Olympics, we’re looking at animals on TV! Whether furry or scaly, they often add color and dimension to the TV shows of which they are a part. This poll does not include characters who appear human most of the time but also can show up as animals – werewolves, shapeshifters, etc., but mythological animals are allowed.

For an animal to qualify for this poll, it has to appear in more than one episode of the show (which left out some nominated favorites from Psych, Supernatural, and NCIS). As usual, only live-action, scripted shows are included. If you have additional nominations, please put them in the comments!

Poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 3 of your favorite TV animals. Remember to keep checking the main event page for all the current polls and results!

What's your favorite TV animal? (Choose up to 3!)

  • Dragon - Merlin (28%, 108 Votes)
  • Satchmo - White Collar (11%, 43 Votes)
  • Marcel - Friends (7%, 25 Votes)
  • Kit - Charmed (5%, 18 Votes)
  • Pongo - Once Upon a Time (5%, 18 Votes)
  • Miss Kitty Fantastico - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (5%, 18 Votes)
  • Trailer - Warehouse 13 (4%, 17 Votes)
  • Chestnut - 2 Broke Girls (4%, 15 Votes)
  • Annie's Boobs - Community (4%, 14 Votes)

How I Met Your Mother — Joe Manganiello Returns as Brad in Season 8 – TVLine

I love that How I Met Your Mother is bringing back some familiar faces as the show winds down (or gets converted into something along the lines of “After I Met Your Mother”). It took me a second to remember Joe Manganiello from his guest spots in the show, but now that the True Blood actor is showing up everywhere (he also had a guest role on White Collar last season), I’m sure his two-episode return to HIMYM will be awesome!

What other years-ago guests and reoccurring cast members would you like to see back on HIMYM?

How I Met Your Mother — Joe Manganiello Returns as Brad in Season 8 – TVLine.

Monday Madness: Favorite Summer Show

This Monday Madness, it’s time to bask in the delights of summer TV! As many broadcast shows go on hiatus for the summer, cable shows get a chance to shine! Also, we here in the US get the chance to experience some Canadian and British shows over the summer as well.

The selection of shows is based on US scheduling, and features shows within the past decade. I included some newer shows that had aired at least 3 episodes (giving Bunheads a little leeway since its third episode airs tonight). Not all of these shows air all their episodes in the summer – many have a split schedule, with the second half of seasons airing the following winter. Also, not all of these are still summer shows – for example, Psych has transitioned into a fall show, but since 5 of the past 6 seasons have started in July or August, I felt it qualified for the poll.

This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 10 of your favorite summer shows. Be sure to spread the word so your favorites will make it into the top 10! Fans have used Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, forums, Reddit, blogs, and chatboxes to get the word out about past polls. Get creative!

Even though there are 30-some options on this list, I know there are TV shows I left out! You can nominate ones I missed in the comments until Thursday night, and I may add them to the poll (live-action scripted shows only, please).

Want more of a say in who makes it onto the poll each week? Be sure to follow me on Twitter or like TV Breakroom on Facebook, since I usually ask for nominations for the next Monday Madness the weekend before the new poll. Please help out with nominations! There are only so many shows I can watch personally, so I’m counting on you to fill me in!

Without further ado, here’s the poll for this week’s Monday Madness! Voting ends around 1AM July 2nd.

Eye on Emmy 2012: White Collar and Glee’s Matt Bomer – TVLine

Fun interview with White Collar’s Matt Bomer! He talks about his upcoming movie, guest-starring on Glee (yes, I just played his rendition of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” for a friend this evening!), and how long he plans to stay on White Collar. There’s some discussion on more serious topics, including a bias against USA Network shows in the Emmys. But there are also some lighthearted yet insightful questions. For example, this:

Q: Neal Caffrey has to be one of the funnest characters to play.

A: He is. It’s so rare, especially as a younger actor, to find a role where it’s not just one-dimensional and it’s not just a stock leading man. He is smart, intelligent, slick. He has grace under fire. He’s excellent under pressure. He’s on point. He’s firing on all cylinders. But at the same time, he’s really a 4-year-old. He has terrible impulse control. He makes really irrational decisions, especially when it comes to anything romantically-inclined. He is a hopeless romantic to a fault. … It’s a real dream of a role to get to play. More and more, as I play the role over the years, I come to find so many things in my life that I thought were futile or silly at the time, that I may have studied or read about or practiced, led up to this opportunity for me.

Eye on Emmy 2012: White Collar and Glee’s Matt Bomer – TVLine.

Spoilers for True Blood, Once Upon a Time, Bones, and More! – TVLine

Another spoiler post, this one full of news about shows I love! Some highlights:

Those hoping for some Finder action on Bones aren’t crazy: Don’t think the thought hasn’t crossed the mind of the man in charge of both shows. “I would love that so much,” says Hanson. “But you would have to make sure it wasn’t self-indulgent. And I don’t have a sense right now how much the Bones audience would like to see that. And I don’t know if the Finder audience would want it to happen. But I personally think it would be great.” Hanson concedes that he’s still “exceedingly depressed” about The Finder‘s cancellation, confessing, “It’s hard to let go.” He also says that after some “initial wariness,” the Bones cast warmed up to “the Finder upstarts,” adding, “They all became very fond of each other. David [Boreanaz] really liked working with Geoff [Stults]. They got along terrifically well, so it would be fun to have them on [Bones].”

White Collar’s Sara Ellis will be in several episodes of season 4, but she won’t be a regular cast member (yay!).

Once Upon a Time will pick up right where it left off, and be on the lookout for more Disney princesses getting their stories told!

June Giveaway – White Collar!

As chosen by fans, for the month of June TV Breakroom is promoting White Collar! You can already see the updated site look, but the real prize is below – a giveaway! Winner will receive a White Collar season DVD set of their choice (including season three, which releases June 5th!) or a $20 Amazon gift card (note: entrants outside the US will receive an e-gift card due to shipping costs).

White Collar (created by Jeff Eastin) is the story of con man and art thief Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), and the only man who has ever caught him (twice), FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay). In lieu of an extended prison sentence for his escape, Neal agrees to work for the FBI as a consultant in the white collar crimes division, under Peter’s watchful eye. The cast also includes Peter’s wife Elizabeth (Tiffani Thiessen), Neal’s partner-in-crime Mozzie (Willie Garson), and FBI agents Jones (Sharif Atkins) and Diana (Marsha Thomason).

This is my first time using Rafflecopter for a giveaway, so please let me know if you have any troubles with it! I tried to make it as easy to understand as I could. Some ways enter will require doing something and then coming back to fill in the needed info, others you can do up to once a day! If you have other ideas of activities that you believe should earn entries, let me know and I may add them!

UPDATE: This giveaway has ended, but there’s a new one for July – Leverage!

Top 10 Favorite TV Couples – Realistic Shows

The votes have been tallied, and the winners have emerged! Here are the top 10 favorite couples from realistic/contemporary TV shows, as voted by you!

It’s worth noting that only Bones has two couples in the top 10, though 7 shows managed to have two sets of sweethearts in the top 20! And speaking of the top 20, I plan to combine this poll’s top 20 with the speculative TV show couples top 20, as well as 10 new/wild card choices, for an ultimate fan poll sometime this fall. So if you’re wondering how Nathan Fillion’s Castle (and Beckett) would fare against his Malcolm Reynolds (and Inara), or David Boreanaz’s Booth (and Brennan) against his Angel (and Buffy), stay tuned!

#10 Angela Montenegro and Jack Hodgins – Bones
