Community Season 4 Whitney Season 2 premiere postponed – TVLine

Returning seasons of Community and Whitney have been postponed – and NBC hasn’t said when they’re coming back. This could actually be good news for either or both shows, as some new NBC comedies (Guys With Kids and Animal Practice) aren’t doing so well. I recently speculated that there might be some comedy rearranging on the network, and I hope Community will get a chance to flourish on Wednesdays instead of being shuffled off to a Friday death slot or being forced to compete with the hugely popular CBS hit, The Big Bang Theory.

I expect we’ll get some news after Wednesday’s ratings come in for Guys With Kids and Animal Practice. In the meantime, Grimm repeats will continue to air on Fridays at 8.

‘Revolution’ Gets Full-Season — ‘Go On’ and ‘New Normal’ Picked By NBC – TVLine

NBC has given three of its freshman shows a full season pick-up (which usually involves expanding their initial 13-episode order to a full 22): Revolution, Go On, and The New Normal. Revolution and Go On are the network’s highest-rated scripted shows so far this season (out of all their scripted shows, not just new ones), while The New Normal has ridden Go On’s coattails for ratings on par with The Office’s current (and final) season.

I’ve sampled all three shows, but Go On is the only one I’m still watching (Revolution’s pilot was interesting enough for me to give the show another chance by watching the second episode, but The New Normal’s pilot was so awful I barely finished it).

The news doesn’t bode well for NBC’s other new comedies, Animal Practice and Guys With Kids – I’m watching both still, but I wouldn’t really mind if either are canceled. NBC has 3 comedies officially on tap for midseason – Save Me, 1600 Penn, and Next Caller, plus the likely Dwight-from-The-Office spinoff The Farm. With 30 Rock, Up All Night, and Community all only having 13-episode renewals, only one out of the 5 (these three, plus Animal Practice and Guys with Kids) will likely get nine more episodes. I’m REALLY hoping that show is Community. I’m also hoping Community will switch places and get one of the Wednesday slots before it comes back. (If so, I think it should be paired with fellow single-camera comedy Animal Practice, while both multi-camera shows – Guys With Kids and Whitney – air on Friday.)

As far as dramas go, with not really liking Revolution, the only current NBC drama I watch is Grimm. For midseason, I’m still not sure if I’ll return to Smash, and the new dramas set to debut then don’t really interest me.

TV Duos Bracket – Round Two, Day 24

Our final day of round two includes the matchup I’ve been anticipating (dreading?) since I first saw the pairings that came with the randomized list. Shawn and Gus of Psych and Troy and Abed of Community were the duos who inspired this entire event, so to have one of them eliminated this early is a bitter blow. But you have to choose – which is your favorite? Also today, the Gilmore Girls, Lorelai and Rory, face Harvey and Mike from Suits.

Our fifth matchup of round two just finished – be sure to check out the results and all our current matchups here! The winning duos will advance to round 3, which starts tomorrow! (P.S. Be sure to stop by our new show poll as well!)

You can find a full list of upcoming TV duos matchups here (edited to show all our round one eliminations!). Round two matchups are in burgundy. TV Olympics: Favorite Cast-Performed Song

Today launches our final mini-poll event, cast-performed songs! A week from today we’ll tally the medals and see who won the 2012 TV Olympics! The current top shows only have 6-8 medals so this is still very much any show’s game!

If you have more nominations for this poll, please leave them in the comments! Songs should be from scripted live-action shows, and be performed (at least in part) by cast members. Lip-synching (sorry, Supernatural fans who nominated “Eye of the Tiger”) and guest star only performances aren’t eligible. We’re also excluding songs from all-musical shows like Glee and Smash (there would simply be too many options).

Since this poll focuses on musical performances, I’ve created a playlist for the songs that I could find on YouTube. Of course the quality of the videos will vary, with some being lyrics or photos only, and there were several I was unable to find (also, several won’t embed). Listen for help in making this very hard choice!

I will make it a little easier on you, though: Since this is the final poll of the event, you can select 10 options instead of the usual 3!

This poll will be open for one week, and remember, you can choose up to 10 options. Please spread the word so your favorites will win medals, and be sure to vote in all our current Olympic polls!

What's your favorite cast-performed song? (Choose up to 10!)

  • Psych - "Shout" (Shawn and Gus) (15%, 286 Votes)
  • Leverage - "Thinking of You" (Eliot) (11%, 219 Votes)
  • Supernatural - "Dead or Alive" (Dean and Sam) (11%, 217 Votes)
  • Leverage - "Chasing Down Bad Guys in Lucille" (Hardison and Eliot) (10%, 186 Votes)

TV Olympics: Favorite TV Animal

For this round of our TV Show Olympics, we’re looking at animals on TV! Whether furry or scaly, they often add color and dimension to the TV shows of which they are a part. This poll does not include characters who appear human most of the time but also can show up as animals – werewolves, shapeshifters, etc., but mythological animals are allowed.

For an animal to qualify for this poll, it has to appear in more than one episode of the show (which left out some nominated favorites from Psych, Supernatural, and NCIS). As usual, only live-action, scripted shows are included. If you have additional nominations, please put them in the comments!

Poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 3 of your favorite TV animals. Remember to keep checking the main event page for all the current polls and results!

What's your favorite TV animal? (Choose up to 3!)

  • Dragon - Merlin (28%, 108 Votes)
  • Satchmo - White Collar (11%, 43 Votes)
  • Marcel - Friends (7%, 25 Votes)
  • Kit - Charmed (5%, 18 Votes)
  • Pongo - Once Upon a Time (5%, 18 Votes)
  • Miss Kitty Fantastico - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (5%, 18 Votes)
  • Trailer - Warehouse 13 (4%, 17 Votes)
  • Chestnut - 2 Broke Girls (4%, 15 Votes)
  • Annie's Boobs - Community (4%, 14 Votes)
  • Vincent - Lost (4%, 14 Votes)
  • Lojack - Eureka (4%, 14 Votes)
  • Arnold - Green Acres (3%, 13 Votes)

  • Yakult - Suburgatory (2%, 9 Votes)
  • Sammy - Revenge (2%, 9 Votes)
  • Dog - Petticoat Junction (1%, 5 Votes)
  • Burt Reynolds - Hart of Dixie (1%, 4 Votes)

Pilot Orders from Syfy, CBS, and more

Some cool and/or interesting pilot news has been revealed over the past week or so.

Most recently, Syfy has ordered a ninety-minute pilot from Pushing Daisies’ Bryan Fuller. Based on a 1969 science fiction novel, High Moon looks at a future where colonies have been established on the moon to mine its resources, and what happens when a new life form is discovered.

Syfy also has ordered a put pilot (a pilot contracted to make it onto TV, or the network will have to pay stiff penalties) from M. Night Shyamalan and Marti Noxon (best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Proof focuses on the son of a billionaire tech genius who, after his parents’ passing, offers a huge reward for anyone who can provide proof of life after death.

CBS is looking at rebooting The Brady Bunch, with help from Vince Vaughn. The potential show (only a script has been ordered so far) would be a multi-camera comedy (which is one filmed on a soundstage, with live audience/laugh track) focusing on Bobby Brady (the youngest son in the original show), now a divorced and remarried father. His wife also has children from a previous relationship, and the two have one child together. The show will juggle both the blended family and issues with both of the couple’s exes.

CBS has also contracted former Community showrunner Dan Harmon for a multi-camera comedy script. This is in addition to Fox’s near-contact with him for another comedy, also likely multi-camera.

Community’s Dan Harmon Fox Pilot – TVLine

Catching up on posting some news from the past few days! Considering the awesomeness that is Community, I’m glad Dan Harmon’s doing a pilot for another show.

But a multi-camera show? I’ve found most of those boring. The only two I really enjoy are The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother, and even they have quite a few off episodes and plotlines.

And Fox? They’re way too cancel-happy. Though they do seem a bit kinder to comedies than dramas, and they seem to be expanding their comedy time after the success of New Girl.

Community’s Dan Harmon Fox Pilot – TVLine.

TV Olympics: Favorite Alternate Media Episode

TV Breakroom doesn’t cover animated shows, but we do cover live-action shows that have an animated or other alternate media episode. Only a few were nominated for this poll, so if you know of any others, please mention them! They should be a main part of the episode, not just a brief clip. For example, Community’s anime scene in “Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism” doesn’t count, but the puppetry in Angel’s “Smile Time” was a driving force in the episode, so it’s allowed.

Poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 3 episodes. Please spread the word, and be sure to check out all our ongoing polls in this Olympic event!
