Top 10 Canceled Shows That Should Return

The votes are in! A record-setting 9043 people voted for which shows they’d like to see return. Shows were limited to ones that had 3 seasons or less. Here are the results for TV Breakroom’s first-ever Monday Madness poll!

Number 10: Jericho

This show about a small town impacted by a nuclear event barely made it into the top 10, being only 3 votes away from #11, Dark Angel. After it was canceled following its freshman season, fans were able to bring it back for a 7-episode second season. The story continued in comic form, and there are still movie rumors spreading around.

Monday Madness: Who’s Your Favorite Quirky Character?

This round of Monday Madness, it’s time to look at those crazy characters in the shows we love. Often, they’re on the sidelines – not the main character, their romantic interest, or the person in charge. They provide comic relief in otherwise serious shows, or are a main source of laughter in comedies. They can be indispensable, evil, or hopelessly inept. But they refuse to fade into the background, and the shows wouldn’t be the same without them.

This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 10 of your favorite quirky characters. Be sure to spread the word so your favorites will make it into the top 10!

Even though there are 40 options on this list, I know there are many great characters I left out! As always, you can cast write-in ballots by leaving a comment. Want more of a say in what makes it onto the poll each week? Be sure to follow me on Twitter, since I usually ask for nominations for the next Monday Madness the weekend before the new poll.

Without further ado, here’s the poll for this week’s Monday Madness! Voting ends around 1AM April 16th.

Update: voting is over, but you can vote on this week’s poll here! Winners’ post here.

How I Met Your Mother Season 7 Episode 20 Carter Bays Preview – TVLine

Some info on the upcoming episode, which features a different sort of flashback/flashforward format than usual. Apparently, Ted, Marshall, and Barney have a tradition of watching the original Star Wars trilogy every three years, during which they speculate what their lives will be like in the next three years.

David Boreanaz Directs The Finder with 50 Cent and Eureka Alum

The Finder returns tonight at 8/7 central in its first Friday outing! Scheduling the return on a holiday is bad enough, but Fox has done little promotion about the return of this hilarious show. Be sure to watch!

Guest-starring in tonight’s episode is rapper 50 Cent, as well as Eureka cast member Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Also, a special behind-the-scenes treat – Bones star David Boreanaz steps into the director’s chair for this episode!

Now we know what happened to all of the old textbooks from UC Sunnydale. : buffy

Considering the lack of crossover between people who worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and people who worked on Community (just a handful of undistinctive guest stars – most notably, the old lady from “Doublemeat Palace” voices Pierce’s mom; some stunt people, and a few miscellaneous crew), this Easter egg is even more awesome. Though as much as Troy and Abed love Firefly, it’s likely they’ve checked out other Joss Whedon-related stuff.

Great discussion of the lengths fans go to save TV shows, and how they are starting for find ways that actually work. Mailing stuff to the studio is on the decline (despite Terra Nova’s dinosaurs), while social media is making more of an impact.

‘Bent’s David Walton To Star In CBS’ Greg Malins/Greg Berlanti Comedy Pilot – Deadline.com

If the burn-off schedule and low ratings weren’t enough to convince you that Bent is doomed, perhaps this will: star David Walton has been cast in a CBS comedy. The premise of this show sounds very similar to the movie Maid of Honor, with the male lead realizing he’s in love with his long-time best friend, just as she gets engaged to someone else.

Glad Walton has a chance to move to CBS, after getting burnt by NBC two years in a row.

Bent – Hilarious and Underpromoted

I think I first heard something about NBC’s Bent almost a year ago when the 2011-2012 season pick-ups were announced. I didn’t recognize any of the actors on the show, and the premise sounded bland. An uptight lawyer falling for her contractor? Yawn.

I didn’t come across another word about the show until my brother asked my opinion on it. Surprised that there was a broadcast scripted show I knew nothing about, I looked up a preview trailer. And liked it. The two leads had great chemistry, there was an excellent supporting cast, and there was a perfect balance of wit and situational comedy. And then I got mad.

NBC had utterly failed this show when it came to promotion. If I, someone who kept up with dozens of shows and looked for all the latest news on TV, barely knew this show existed, how would everyone else know? That meant the premiere episodes would rate low. And by airing back-to-back episodes every week, Bent’s abbreviated 6-episode season would only have 2 weeks to build word-of-mouth. The show was doomed before it aired its first episode.

And I was right. The show was everything I hoped it would be – heartfelt, hilarious, zany. The contractor’s father and crew, along with the lawyer’s daughter and sister, rounded out the cast in unexpected ways, creating a “family of misfits” vibe right from the start. Fortunately for me, the show aired at a time when I didn’t have other plans, so I was able to watch every episode live.

But just as I predicted, the ratings were terrible, even by NBC’s standards. This was Free Agents all over again – a badly promoted show with a premise that sounded terrible and gave no hint of the show’s true nature. At least Bent was able to air all its filmed episodes, and the season (and almost certainly series) finale wrapped up a few loose ends to give the show a bit of closure.

Castle Casts Tahmoh Penikett in Season 4 – TVLine

Another actor from the Whedonverse is joining Castle this season (and possibly next!) – Tahmoh Penikett! He’s probably best known for playing Helo on the epic space drama Battlestar Galatica, but he also had a major role in Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse as FBI agent Paul Ballard.

On Castle, he’ll be playing Cole Maddox, who’s “cold, calculated and has a military background,” in the season finale May 7th.

[VIDEO] Bones Season 7 Episode 8 – TVLine

Super-cute video preview of the next episode of Bones! Six weeks after giving birth (even though that episode aired just a week ago), Brennan tries to rationalize leaving little Christine at the Jeffersonion’s day care, while Booth assures her everything will be fine. Little Stapes isn’t much help as she gives her parents adorable facial expressions. Could they have picked a cuter baby to play the role?

To top off last night’s preview, TVLine has some additional pics of the Firefly reunion on next episode’s Castle reunion (airing April 16 – next Monday’s a repeat, but the last repeat until the season finale). The episode is entitled “Headhunters.”

Glee Video: Matt Bomer and Darren Criss Cover Gotye – TVLine

I enjoy Glee’s music (though not much else about the show – too much soap opera melodrama and agenda-pushing), but I’m a huge fan of White Collar’s Matt Bomer, so when I heard Bomer would be playing Blaine’s brother on the show, I knew I would have to check it out.

My own brother recently got me addicted to Gotye’s music, so I was excited to hear that Bomer and Criss would be covering “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Here’s a video preview of that cover:
