This round of the TV Olympics, we’re looking at switched-body performances! It’s typical of many science fiction and fantasy shows to have an episode or two when characters switch consciousness with each other. Usually it’s a one-to-one ratio, but other episodes get more creative – three characters switching, one character played by two actors, etc.
This isn’t one actor playing two characters (if that is more of a long-term thing, it probably fits into our dual roles poll), it’s where one actor plays a role typically portrayed by another actor (or a new enemy), and usually for only one or two episodes.
This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 3 options. Please spread the word so your favorites will win medals, and be sure to vote in all our current Olympic polls!
What's your favorite switched-body performance? (Choose up to 3!)

This Monday Madness, we’re looking at (listening to?) awesome accents on TV! Some are real, some are pretend, but all help define the character who speaks them. Whether the accent is straight-laced British, sultry Spanish, or down-home Southern, and whether the character reinforces or subverts the accent’s stereotypes, these accents add flair and texture to their shows.
Special note: I’m choosing to feature accents that stand out in a show – aka the majority of characters in the show don’t have similar accents. Otherwise, accents from shows set in Great Britain, the southern US, India, etc. would make this poll extremely long.
This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 10 of your favorite accents. Be sure to spread the word so your favorites will make it into the top 10! Fans have used Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, forums, Reddit, blogs, and chatboxes to get the word out about past polls. Get creative!
Even though there are 30-some options on this list, I know there are TV characters with great accents I left out! You can nominate ones I missed in the comments until Thursday night, and I may add them to the poll (from live-action scripted shows only, please, and the accents should differ from the majority of the cast).
Want more of a say in who makes it onto the poll each week? Be sure to follow me on Twitter or like TV Breakroom on Facebook, since I usually ask for nominations for the next Monday Madness the weekend before the new poll. Please help out with nominations! There are only so many shows I can watch personally, so I’m counting on you to fill me in!
Without further ado, here’s the poll for this week’s Monday Madness! Voting ends around 1AM July 16th.
Which character has your favorite accent? (Choose up to 10!)
In part two of our TV couples Monday Madness, we’re looking at couples in speculative TV shows! Whether it’s sci fi, fantasy, paranormal, historical myths, or just a futuristic bent, these shows all have something out of the ordinary, even if the couples in them are perfectly normal human beings.
This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 10 of your favorite TV couples. Be sure to spread the word so your favorites will make it into the top 10!
Even though there are 40-some options on this list, I know there are dozens of couples I left out! You can nominate couples I missed in the comments, and I may add them to the poll. Last week’s poll scored an impressive 8438 voters, and was the most-viewed poll yet! All those views caused the site to even crash at one point (I’ve enabled caching to prevent that problem in the future).
This poll’s nominations were the most controversial yet, with many complaints about great shows that had been left off (I’d severely underestimated the number of shows that have reached the season 7 benchmark), even after I’d tacked on 5 more shows to the initial 45. Speculative shows secured an early lead, but eventually the large fan base of crime shows made a significant dent in the top 10. Which show won? Keep reading!
Last week’s poll received a record 45,198 voters! However, the site pageviews did not justify that many votes. There’s a chance that the poll was embedded on different sites, but it’s more likely that the poll was hacked. It’s impossible to tell which votes are fraudulent, however. All of the top 5 characters seem to have some degree of auto-voting, but before the sudden spikes in voting, all of those characters were in the top 10. So this top 10 list is fairly accurate, however the actual order may be incorrect.
To prevent future auto-votes, I would have to subscribe to a voting system costing $300/year or more. So I would ask that if you want your favorite shows/characters to win a particular poll, you share the link on social networks and fan sites instead of automating votes. I would hate to have to discontinue Monday Madness because of cheating.
But back to the fun! Here are the winners of last week’s poll!
Update: this poll is now closed. You can find this week’s poll here.
