Booktalk & More: Once Upon a Time Season 2 Poster!

In addition to this cool Comic-Con poster (which features new regular cast members Red and Belle), Ruth also mentions the newest bit of casting news for Once Upon a Time: Sarah Bolger has been cast as Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), a reoccurring role for season 2 of this amazing show!

Alphas Season 2 Casts Summer Glau, Sean Astin, Lauren Holly – TVLine

Looking forward to all of these amazing guest stars coming up in this season of Alphas! Much as I would like to see James Marsters regularly on my TV, I think SyFy made the right choice when they chose Alphas over Marsters’ similar (superheroes with limited powers) Three Inches. But Whedonverse fans still get to see a favorite actor, as Summer Glau reprises her role as Skylar Adams, a techno-alpha, for 3 episodes of season 2.

Also on the docket for season 2 are two NCIS-related actors. Sean Astin, best known as Samwise on The Lord of the Rings, recently dropped by the crime show, and will play Roland on Alphas. He’ll have the ability to absorb and replay others’ memories. Lauren Holly, who was NCIS’s Jenny Sheppard, will play a senator.

See this press release for more info on other new and returning guest stars.

Made in Jersey Casts Kristoffer Polaha — Season 1 – TVLine

Kristoffer Polaha, who played Ringer’s smarmy Henry, has joined Made in Jersey as a regular cast member. This doesn’t increase my desire to watch the show at all, but it does raise the question – when will other Ringer cast members join other shows? Particularly Ioan Gruffudd – I want him back on my TV screen!

TV Show Olympics: Nominations

In late July, TV Breakroom is going to go mini-poll-crazy for the Olympics! Each daily mini-poll will be considered an event, and gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded at the end of each. TV shows will be treated like countries, and will gather medals from more show-based polls (team) as well as character/episode polls (individual). Not every show will be eligible to enter every poll (event), but this is typical of the Olympics as well.

Here are some ideas I had for mini-poll events, and now I need your nominations! Feel free to nominate your own ideas for mini-polls as well, but remember, keep it small and specific! If I get too many nominations for an event, I’ll postpone it for a regular Monday Madness poll. If I get too few, however, it will be dropped as an event.

Make sure you mention what event you’re nominating for in the comments! If you’re nominating for a bunch of events, it will probably best to copy/paste the list of events into your comment, and add your nominations from there.

Monday Madness: Favorite Brilliant Yet Crazy Characters

This Monday Madness, in honor of TNT’s new show, Perception (which premieres Monday, July 9th, at 10/9c), we’re looking at TV’s brilliant yet crazy characters. Perception centers around a schizophrenic neuroscientist (Eric McCormack) who works with FBI Agent Kate Moretti (Rachel Lee Cook) to solve complex criminal cases. Perception also stars Arjay Smith and Kelly Rowan, with special appearances by Levar Burton.

For the purposes of this poll, I’m defining “crazy” as anywhere from clinically insane to mild disorders to kind of quirky. “Brilliant” ranges anywhere from off-the-charts IQ to uniquely skilled in a certain area (though most lean toward high IQ).

This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 10 of your favorite smart, zany characters. Be sure to spread the word so your favorites will make it into the top 10! Fans have used Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, forums, Reddit, blogs, and chatboxes to get the word out about past polls. Get creative!

Even though there are 20-some options on this list, I know there are brilliant-crazy characters I left out! You can nominate ones I missed in the comments until Thursday night, and I may add them to the poll (from live-action scripted shows only, please, and avoid villains unless they’re a major part of the show).

Want more of a say in who makes it onto the poll each week? Be sure to follow me on Twitter or like TV Breakroom on Facebook, since I usually ask for nominations for the next Monday Madness the weekend before the new poll. Please help out with nominations! There are only so many shows I can watch personally, so I’m counting on you to fill me in!

Without further ado, here’s the poll for this week’s Monday Madness! Voting ends around 1AM July 9th.

The Office Spin-Off Casting News — The Farm – TVLine

I still feel like this Dwight-centric spin-off of The Office is a bad April Fool’s Day joke (wait, what’s today? Oh, we’re in June). Much as I like Dwight’s character, it really shines in contrast to the “normal” people at The Office, especially Jim.

So who will we be left with at The Office if The Farm’s planted pilot gets the green light for a full-blown show? Michael Scott’s been gone for a year, and while I loved Andy’s turn as manager, Robert California’s head honcho role was terrible. But even as annoying as he was, new character Nellie is even worse, so losing him and gaining her as a full cast member doesn’t improve things. Kelly’s gone as well, and Ryan will only be stopping by occasionally. And now Dwight will either leave the show completely or take a reoccurring role.

Whose love story do we have to root for now? Jim and Pam, and Andy and Erin don’t need any more drama. Who will Jim play pranks on?

More fun tidbits about shows, including NCIS’s Pauley Perrette wanting to explore Abby’s relationship with her brother, Annie has a new boss on Covert Affairs (what does that mean for Kari Matchett?), Warehouse 13’s 20-episode 4th season will be split a la Eureka (look for the second half in April 2013), and more!

Monday Madness: Favorite Summer Show

This Monday Madness, it’s time to bask in the delights of summer TV! As many broadcast shows go on hiatus for the summer, cable shows get a chance to shine! Also, we here in the US get the chance to experience some Canadian and British shows over the summer as well.

The selection of shows is based on US scheduling, and features shows within the past decade. I included some newer shows that had aired at least 3 episodes (giving Bunheads a little leeway since its third episode airs tonight). Not all of these shows air all their episodes in the summer – many have a split schedule, with the second half of seasons airing the following winter. Also, not all of these are still summer shows – for example, Psych has transitioned into a fall show, but since 5 of the past 6 seasons have started in July or August, I felt it qualified for the poll.

This poll will be open for one week, and you can choose up to 10 of your favorite summer shows. Be sure to spread the word so your favorites will make it into the top 10! Fans have used Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, forums, Reddit, blogs, and chatboxes to get the word out about past polls. Get creative!

Even though there are 30-some options on this list, I know there are TV shows I left out! You can nominate ones I missed in the comments until Thursday night, and I may add them to the poll (live-action scripted shows only, please).

Save The Finder!

Fox has cancelled one of my favorite shows of this past season, The Finder. While cancelled shows rarely get renewed because of fan effort, there’s a bit more hope that they get picked up by a cable network instead.

I think USA Network should pick up The Finder.

The Finder is a perfect match for USA – zany, original characters having hilarious adventures while solving very real problems in unorthodox ways. In fact, when my brother first told me about the show, he thought it was on USA Network.

USA Network has a feedback page, where you can offer suggestions for shows. Scroll down to the email form, fill in your info, select USA Network Programming (Shows, Movies, Specials) under topic, then select Other – Suggest a Program near the bottom of the programs drop-down box. Write a brief note in the message box suggesting that USA Network pick up The Finder and explaining why the show would be a great fit for them.

Then spread the word to get other fans of The Finder to do the same! If enough people suggest the show, they will be able to see the strong fan support The Finder has, and be more willing to consider picking it up!

Spoilers on Castle, Bones, Glee and More — Ask Ausiello – TVLine

I love TVLine’s spoiler posts, and this one is full of info on shows I watch, like Castle, Bones, Community, Leverage, and more! Find out about Carrie Preston’s fate on True Blood and The Good Wife, the Bones bonus episode “The Gunk in the Garage”, and where New Girl’s Max Greenfield would love Schmidt’s relationship with Cece to go.

Once Upon a Time Season 2 — Emilie de Ravin Promoted to Series Regular – TVLine

My Once Upon a Time wish came true! When Meghan Ory was promoted to series regular, I hoped Emilie de Ravin would receive a similar promotion, and she has! I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of Belle in season 2 of Once Upon a Time, and I’m sure RumBelle fans are rejoicing! Rumpelstiltskin and Belle were recently voted as the #2 speculative couple here on TV Breakroom, beating out fellow Once Upon a Time couples Emma and Sheriff Graham, and Snow and Charming!
