March Madness: Blue Bloods vs. The Finder

Blue Bloods is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Family patriarch Henry used to be the police commissioner, his son Frank is the current commissioner, and his three children are a police detective, an assistant district attorney, and a rookie cop.

The Finder – Walter Sherman is an Iraq War vet who suffered brain damage in an IED explosion, which triggered the ability to “find” things: he sees connections between seemingly unrelated events, objects or people that other investigators would miss. Walter is assisted by his “legal adviser” and bar owner Leo Knox, US Deputy Marshal Isabel Zambada, and teen parolee and thief Willa Monday, who is serving her probation with the team.

March Madness Comes to TV Breakroom

TV Breakroom is doing its own version of March Madness! And there’s a prize!

You will vote between two shows by leaving a comment with your choice on a bracket post (not on this post – though feel free to predict the winner here!). Every 6 days this month, I will close the comments, add up the totals, and set things up for the next stage of the bracket. I’ll link to all of the bracket posts here.

Every comment you leave throughout the month, whether to vote in the bracket or normal comments on other posts, will count as one entry toward a $15 Amazon gift card. Only one comment per post will count as an entry, and comments flagged as spam will be ignored. Contest begins on March 1, 2012 at 12:01 EST and ends March 31, 2012 at 11:59 EDT. Winner must provide email address and respond to winning notification within 3 days.

For a show to qualify, it had to air at least 5 new episodes between June 1, 2011 and February 29, 2012. It also has to be a US show (airing originally on a US broadcast or cable network, no matter where it was filmed), and I have to have seen at least 5 episodes of the show.

Here is the final match-up! The order in which shows would face each other was created by Random.org. Click the match-up to go to its bracket post and vote! Voting for this round ends around 1AM on March 31st, so get your votes in now!

Fox Moves Bones to Mondays, Touch Premieres March 22

Fox has decided to juggle its spring schedule around like crazy! Bones is moving to Mondays at 8 after Alcatraz finishes its initial run – yay for getting Bones back 3 days earlier than anticipated (April 2 versus April 5), but boo for competing shows. House will move back to its old spot of 9PM on Mondays the same day, and have all new episodes until the two-hour retrospective/finale May 21.

Thursdays, The Finder will air a spring finale March 8, and return at an undetermined time. Its rating indicate that it’s likely to be canceled, but I’d be happy if it continued to share a timeslot with Bones. It feels like a summer show. I love the crossover episodes and would like to see more of them (I expect Isabel will show up on Bones the next time a U.S. Marshall is needed).

Touch will premiere Thursday, March 22, at 9, taking the typical Bones/The Finder slot after American Idol.

House, Fringe, Good Wife, Private Practice and White Collar Spoilers — Matt’s Inside Line

So many interesting things are talked about in this article! Sebastian Stan (Jack Benjamin from Kings) will be the Mad Hatter on a future episode of Once Upon a Time (so, yes, the picture we saw of Alice in Wonderland in the book was entirely accurate).

Also, tonight The Finder will have Willa’s Uncle Shad make an appearance, and there’s info about both the White Collar season finale and the House series finale.

Bones Returns in 2012 — Season 7 Return Date, April 5

Less than two months before Bones returns! It will replace its spinoff show, The Finder, which will finish its first season in March. Currently, IMDb has 13 episodes listed for The Finder, with the 12th episode airing the last Thursday in March, but they could easily play 2 episodes during one night to make up for it if IMDb’s information is accurate.

The Finder hasn’t been doing so well in the ratings, so I hope it will pick up soon. The fifth episode airs today. Four episodes in, it’s not yet “must watch” TV for me, but it’s quirky and lighthearted. It almost seems a better fit for USA Network than Fox. If I miss watching shows on Thursday, The Finder tends to be the second one I watch online the next day (right after The Big Bang Theory), which indicates I enjoy more than its competition (Person of Interest and The Office). At least House ending will add another slot to Fox’s fall schedule, which may improve The Finder’s chances of being renewed.

TV Pilots for 2012-2013 Season — ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, The CW

Wow, TV Line has outdone themselves with this comprehensive list of ordered pilots for next season. Even though these pilots mean that other shows will be canceled, it’s fun to imagine and predict what next season will look like on the various networks.

The article starts with definitions of the various terms surrounding pilot season. The ones that most intrigue me are planted pilots and second position. Second position was responsible for the cast change on New Girl – when actors of bubble shows film pilots, but if their current show is renewed, the new show has to recast the role.

Planted pilots introduce a new show within the world of a current show. The article sites The Finder episode on Bones last season, but many shows do this, though the new show doesn’t always get picked up (for example, when Jess left Gilmore Girls, the episode where he meets his California family was supposed to become a spinoff show). Today’s most-watched scripted drama, NCIS, had a planted pilot on JAG, and in turn hosted a planted pilot for NCIS: Los Angeles.

I plan to write another article going into more detail about the networks’ various pilots, but one thing did sadden me about this list: no Joss Whedon projects.

View my thoughts on the CW pilots and cancellations!

The Finder Season 1 Episode 2 Dr. Sweets Video

The best thing to help out The Finder’s not-so-great premiere ratings? Having the second episode host guest star John Francis Daley, playing his character from Bones, Dr. Lance Sweets. If this preview video is any indication, the episode will be hilarious!

Ratings: Rob Has Grande Premiere, Finder Gets Lost in Shuffle as Person of Interest Hits Highs – TVLine

I was surprised The Finder did so poorly on its first time out, but it had a lot of competition at 9PM: Person of Interest (with most viewers ever – probably thanks to an awesome fall finale), Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, and The Secret Circle. I thought The Finder’s pilot (which featured finding a missing pilot) was decent, but I’m probably going to watch Person of Interest live from now on (maybe CBS.com’s video player stinks on purpose, since that makes people want to watch live instead). Going to check out Rob – if it’s good, I’ll be watching CBS from 8-10 on Thursdays.
