March Madness: Community vs. Once Upon a Time

Two VERY close races. The competing shows Community and The Big Bang Theory ended in a tie on its official post, but a misplaced vote gave the win to Community (which returns this week!). Newbie Once Upon a Time triumphed over popular NCIS by just a few votes. Now, two shows that couldn’t be more different face each other. (Trying to think of something they have in common . . . occasional capes, perhaps?)

Community features smart-aleck lawyer Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), whose education is deemed void by the bar and is forced to attend a local community college with an extremely eclectic staff and student body.

Once Upon a Time – There is a town in Maine, where every storybook character you’ve even known is trapped by an evil curse. Trapped in time, with all their happy endings stolen, they don’t remember who they are or where they came from. Only one can break the spell.

Which show has your vote? Comment below, and be sure to check out the other matches here!

Update: Community won! Vote for it here.

Booktalk & More: Once Upon a Time 1.12: “Skin Deep”

My favorite TV reviewer posts about one of my favorite episodes of one of my favorite shows! I’ve been waiting to hear Ruth’s thoughts on “Skin Deep” for a while.

Like her, I was originally disappointed about Rumpelstiltskin playing the Beast, but I soon saw the genius of it and the episode won me over completely! I can’t wait until they revisit the story some more.

Once Upon a Time Season 1 Episode 15 Red Preview

Not one, not two, but THREE preview videos for this Sunday’s Red Riding Hood-focused episode of Once Upon a Time. The story occurs fairly early in Fairy Tale land-time – Snow White is on the run after being released by the Huntsman when she meets up with Red. Also, we’ll find out who the Big Bad Wolf really is.

Carrie-Anne Moss Cast in Ralph Lamb CBS Pilot

Chuck’s Gertrude Verbanski (or should I say Casey’s?) is headed to the 1960s. Carrie-Anne Moss, most famous for her role of Trinity on The Matrix, will play an ADA.

Also in this post, Once Upon a Time’s Cinderella (Jessy Schram) is headed to ABC’s Last Resort, which is fast shaping up to be one of my most looked-forward-to pilots.

March Madness: NCIS vs. Once Upon a Time

NCIS beat out the vampires, werewolves, and ghosts of Being Human, and Once Upon a Time unanimously won over Eureka – poor SyFy! Now TV’s most viewed drama faces a popular and magical freshman – which will advance to the next round?

NCIS is an action drama with liberal doses of humor that focuses on the sometimes complex dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. These special agents travel the globe to investigate all crimes – from murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines – with Navy or Marine Corps ties.

Once Upon a Time – There is a town in Maine, where every storybook character you’ve even known is trapped by an evil curse. Trapped in time, with all their happy endings stolen, they don’t remember who they are or where they came from. Only one can break the spell.

Will you back the veteran or the rookie? Post your favorite in the comments!

Once Upon a Time — Dreamy Preview, Amy Acker

Wow, quite a different look for Amy Acker from her recent Grimm outing! That was more Whiskey (Dollhouse). This character seems to be more Fred (Angel). She’s adorable in all pink. And it’s interesting that the fairy mythology is being developed a little in this video clip.

Jay Ryan Cast in The Beauty and the Beast — The CW

Not familiar with this actor, but hoping this show will make it to series, with Kristin Kreuk on board. I’m rooting for ABC’s Beauty and the Beast a bit more, just because I’m really happy with what they’ve done with Once Upon a Time.

March Madness: Eureka vs. Once Upon a Time

Eureka – Small town. Big secret. A car accident leads U.S. Marshal Jack Carter into the top-secret Pacific Northwest town of Eureka. For decades, the United States government has relocated the world’s geniuses to Eureka, a town where innovation and chaos have lived hand in hand.

Once Upon a Time – There is a town in Maine, where every storybook character you’ve even known is trapped by an evil curse. Trapped in time, with all their happy endings stolen, they don’t remember who they are or where they came from. Only one can break the spell.

This time it’s quirky science fiction versus interwoven fairy tales! Make your choice in the comments.

March Madness Comes to TV Breakroom

TV Breakroom is doing its own version of March Madness! And there’s a prize!

You will vote between two shows by leaving a comment with your choice on a bracket post (not on this post – though feel free to predict the winner here!). Every 6 days this month, I will close the comments, add up the totals, and set things up for the next stage of the bracket. I’ll link to all of the bracket posts here.

Every comment you leave throughout the month, whether to vote in the bracket or normal comments on other posts, will count as one entry toward a $15 Amazon gift card. Only one comment per post will count as an entry, and comments flagged as spam will be ignored. Contest begins on March 1, 2012 at 12:01 EST and ends March 31, 2012 at 11:59 EDT. Winner must provide email address and respond to winning notification within 3 days.

For a show to qualify, it had to air at least 5 new episodes between June 1, 2011 and February 29, 2012. It also has to be a US show (airing originally on a US broadcast or cable network, no matter where it was filmed), and I have to have seen at least 5 episodes of the show.

Here is the final match-up! The order in which shows would face each other was created by Random.org. Click the match-up to go to its bracket post and vote! Voting for this round ends around 1AM on March 31st, so get your votes in now!

Once Upon a Time Season 1 Episode Episode 14 Preview Eddie Kitsis & Adam Horowitz

Far much more than a preview look at this coming Sunday’s “Grumpy” episode (featuring Amy Acker and a reappearance by Emilie de Ravin’s Belle), this article answers lots of huge questions about the show!

First, August is most likely not the author of Henry’s book, but he did add stuff – for his own benefit. Is he trying to write himself into the story so he can be a part of the fairy tale world? Was he there before and somehow got written out?

Second, the show is trying to get the Huntsman (Jamie Dornan) back for a guest episode! While it’s pretty unlikely he’ll come back to Storybrooke, most of the fairy tale flashbacks we’ve seen so far occur while he’s being held captive and heartless by the Evil Queen. Makes sense for him to show up in another flashback at some point.

Third, we’ll learn why the Evil Queen hates Snow White in episode 18 (which IMDb says is entitled “Stable Boy”), set to air in April.

No real answers on when David and Mary Margaret will get together or who Henry’s father is, so I’m guessing those won’t come up until the end of this season or sometime next season.

Giancarlo Esposito Joins Revolution — NBC, J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke

This is the second reoccurring character from Once Upon a Time who has landed a role in a pilot. Here’s hoping that they’re able to exit the show with purpose if their shows make it to series (or still have time to pop up in Storybrooke occasionally).

By the way, the last name Esposito always makes me think of Castle, which is airing its own fairy tale episode tonight!
