Syfy Developing ‘Clandestine’ Space Drama – Deadline.com

Syfy’s heading to space! The network is developing this drama by actor/writer Todd Stashwick (who’s guested in everything from Buffy and Angel to Burn Notice and Leverage) and artist Dennis Calero, who met on Heroes and later created an online comic.

Clandestine is described as a swash-buckling space drama/adventure and revolves around mercenaries who masquerade as part of an Intergalactic fleet.

Joss Whedon to direct ‘Avengers’ sequel – latimes.com

The world of geekdom (and probably much of the rest of the world) can breathe a huge sign of relief – Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct The Avengers sequel! There was hardly any doubt they would offer the job to him, the doubt was whether Joss wanted to tackle another big Hollywood film or focus his time on other projects.

The article linked below says the release date for Avengers 2 will likely be 2015, since Captain America: The Winter Soldier (first I’ve seen of Captain America 2‘s official title) and Guardians of the Galaxy (which is said to tie in to the big bad revealed at the end of The Avengers) will both release in 2014.

But one of the coolest parts of the article? This sentence:

He also said Whedon is developing a Marvel-themed, live-action television series for ABC.

Remember when TV Breakroom first reported ABC was looking at developing an Avengers-adjacent show? I said this:

Joss Whedon. Superheroes. That’s all you need really. Look what he did with Buffy. He could make even something like Ant-Man work.

Yeah, I’m pretty happy now. Joss Whedon is returning to TV!

BBC America to Co-Produce THE MUSKETEERS

The beloved tale of The Three Musketeers is headed to TV in 2014! Co-produced by BBC One and BBC America, The Musketeers will retain Dumas’ story’s original 17th century setting. Each of the 10 episodes will tell its own story, and it’s not certain how much of the original tale will make its way into the scripts.

Castle Spoilers — Plus Scoop on Community, CSI: NY, How I Met Your Mother and More! – TVLine

I’m a few days late posting this, but there are some amazing spoilers in the article linked below! (Read at your own risk!) My favorite tidbits include:

Castle possibly doing a murder at a sci-fi convention – I hope they bring in some great guest stars for this! Firefly reunion, anyone? Also, they’re planning a riff on The Office – hope they do a better job than last year’s attempt at the same thing by Leverage.

Barney and Robin will get engaged this season on How I Met Your Mother. The timing of their wedding, however, will probably be based on whether the show gets things figured out for a possible season 9.

How did I not hear about Bones’ all-squintern episode before this? It’s bound to be awesome!

Grimm Casts Josh Stewart in Season 2 – TVLine

Josh Stewart, who currently can be seen in theaters playing Bain’s second-in-command in The Dark Knight Rises, has scheduled a guest appearance on season 2 of Grimm. The film also features Reggie Lee, Grimm’s lovable Sgt. Wu, as Blake’s partner on the force.

Both Reggie Lee and Josh Stewart also reoccurred on NBC’s short-lived No Ordinary Family (they shared one memorable scene). This will make FOUR actors from No Ordinary Family who have appeared on Grimm  (almost thought it was five for a moment, with one Panabaker sister playing the mind-reading Daphne on NOF, and the other playing the fire-breathing Ariel on Grimm). Fan favorites Amy Gumenick (Supernatural) and Amy Acker (Angel, Dollhouse) have also guested on both shows.

Pilot Orders from Syfy, CBS, and more

Some cool and/or interesting pilot news has been revealed over the past week or so.

Most recently, Syfy has ordered a ninety-minute pilot from Pushing Daisies’ Bryan Fuller. Based on a 1969 science fiction novel, High Moon looks at a future where colonies have been established on the moon to mine its resources, and what happens when a new life form is discovered.

Syfy also has ordered a put pilot (a pilot contracted to make it onto TV, or the network will have to pay stiff penalties) from M. Night Shyamalan and Marti Noxon (best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Proof focuses on the son of a billionaire tech genius who, after his parents’ passing, offers a huge reward for anyone who can provide proof of life after death.

CBS is looking at rebooting The Brady Bunch, with help from Vince Vaughn. The potential show (only a script has been ordered so far) would be a multi-camera comedy (which is one filmed on a soundstage, with live audience/laugh track) focusing on Bobby Brady (the youngest son in the original show), now a divorced and remarried father. His wife also has children from a previous relationship, and the two have one child together. The show will juggle both the blended family and issues with both of the couple’s exes.

CBS has also contracted former Community showrunner Dan Harmon for a multi-camera comedy script. This is in addition to Fox’s near-contact with him for another comedy, also likely multi-camera.

How I Met Your Mother — Joe Manganiello Returns as Brad in Season 8 – TVLine

I love that How I Met Your Mother is bringing back some familiar faces as the show winds down (or gets converted into something along the lines of “After I Met Your Mother”). It took me a second to remember Joe Manganiello from his guest spots in the show, but now that the True Blood actor is showing up everywhere (he also had a guest role on White Collar last season), I’m sure his two-episode return to HIMYM will be awesome!

What other years-ago guests and reoccurring cast members would you like to see back on HIMYM?

Elementary Promo Photo

I couldn’t resist sharing this awesome promo pic for CBS’s upcoming drama Elementary. Now that BBC’s Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch has wished the show well and showrunner Rob Doherty has taken will they/won’t they melodrama off the table, the future looks even brighter for this modern take on Holmes. Adding the fact that the only scripted broadcast competition the show will get in its Thursdays at 10 timeslot is the lukewarmly-received Scandal, and I think its nearly certain CBS has a hit on its hands.

Elementary on CBS: No Sexual Tension for Sherlock and Watson – TVLine

Yay! I’m so glad Elementary is going the friendship route for its unconventional Holmes/Watson pairing. It’s so much more true to the original stories. We already have great “will they or won’t they” crime-solving shows like Castle and Bones – Elementary needs to be different. And having the main guy/girl duo of a show being just friends is rare on TV today. The only current show I know of with that type of guy/girl friendship for the two most prominent characters is Warehouse 13, with Pete and Myka. (I’m sure there are others.)

And this isn’t just speculation, it comes straight from the top:

“For me, it’s completely off the table,” Elementary showrunner Rob Doherty told TVLine. “It’s just not in my head for Season 1 and, looking ahead . . . I just don’t feel like that’s a part of the show.”

He added, “People will ask us every week, and there will be people who want to see it happen, and I don’t want to break any hearts but it’s just not in our plans. And I have felt no pressure [from higher-ups] to pursue that kind of storyline.”

Also, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch finally broke his silence about the show that many are claiming is clearly a ripoff of his own. “I wish them luck, I really do. I think it will be great. It will be a different spin on it, because obviously, theirs is modern-day as well, so it needs to be different from ours, and I think the more differences, the better, to be honest.”

He added, “I don’t see why they shouldn’t co-exist with us, I don’t think they’ll steal our audience. I think people who are Holmes fans who think they do a good job of it will have a treat in watching ours and the films. So I wish them good luck!”

Avengers — ABC And Marvel Eye TV Series

An Avengers TV show? Yes, please. Even though it probably won’t feature characters from the movie, I still think they can find some way to make this work.

Awesome ways they could go with this:

1. Joss Whedon. Superheroes. That’s all you need really. Look what he did with Buffy. He could make even something like Ant-Man work.

2. Hawkeye and Widow. Yes, I know the actors who portray them are big-time movie stars and unlikely to cut back on that for a TV show, but this would be all kinds of amazing.

3. Shield. Agent Coulson always seemed to be on the scene when something was going down, and while Cobie Smulders is a little tied up as far as a future-set story, anything could work as long as you have Samuel L. Jackson.

4. Lady Sif and the Warriors Three. Not sure what they have planned for these 4 in Thor 2, but they really needed more screen time in Thor. Also, since they’ve already replaced Once Upon a Time’s Josh Dallas with needs-a-great-new-TV-show Zachary Levi, this is plausible in terms of actor availability.

5. The Hulk. Mark Ruffalo didn’t get his own movie, but the incredible job he did on The Avengers deserves future exploration.

Also, I think it’s great that ABC is the one looking at this, considering the awesome job they’ve done with shows like Castle, Once Upon a Time, and Suburgatory.
