March Madness: Person of Interest vs. Castle

Two USA Network shows bit the dust as Person of Interest squeezed past Suits, and Castle knocked out Covert Affairs. Now the two NYC-based procedurals, both featuring civilians with unorthodox relationships with cops, face off.

Person of Interest – A crime thriller about a presumed dead former-CIA agent, Reese, who teams up with a mysterious billionaire, Finch, to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice.

Castle – After a serial killer imitates the plots of his novels, successful mystery novelist Richard “Rick” Castle (Nathan Fillion gets permission from the Mayor of New York City to tag along with an NYPD homicide investigation team for research purposes. He partners with Detective Kate Beckett, and uses a fictionalized version of her as the main character of his new series.

Update: Castle won! It’s up against How I Met Your Mother now, so keep voting here!

Keck’s Exclusives: Castle Stages Firefly Reunion – Today’s News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

Adam Baldwin is guest starring on Castle!?!?! This news just made my night! Nathan Fillion has been great about adding Firefly nods to the show, but this tops them! It will put the two Firefly members together for the first time since Serenity. Baldwin will play Detective Ethan Slaughter, from the city’s gang unit, who lands a case Castle is desperate to follow.

March Madness Comes to TV Breakroom

TV Breakroom is doing its own version of March Madness! And there’s a prize!

You will vote between two shows by leaving a comment with your choice on a bracket post (not on this post – though feel free to predict the winner here!). Every 6 days this month, I will close the comments, add up the totals, and set things up for the next stage of the bracket. I’ll link to all of the bracket posts here.

Every comment you leave throughout the month, whether to vote in the bracket or normal comments on other posts, will count as one entry toward a $15 Amazon gift card. Only one comment per post will count as an entry, and comments flagged as spam will be ignored. Contest begins on March 1, 2012 at 12:01 EST and ends March 31, 2012 at 11:59 EDT. Winner must provide email address and respond to winning notification within 3 days.

For a show to qualify, it had to air at least 5 new episodes between June 1, 2011 and February 29, 2012. It also has to be a US show (airing originally on a US broadcast or cable network, no matter where it was filmed), and I have to have seen at least 5 episodes of the show.

Here is the final match-up! The order in which shows would face each other was created by Random.org. Click the match-up to go to its bracket post and vote! Voting for this round ends around 1AM on March 31st, so get your votes in now!

Bones Exclusive: Meet the Big-Screen Brennan and Booth – TVLine

So good to be getting Bones scoop again! This time, Brennan’s books are being made into a movie (hinted at years ago – Richard Castle must have better connections with the movie industry since his books took far less time to make it to film). Ashley Jones and Jordan Belfi are set to play the movie versions of Brennan’s characters Dr. Kathy Reichs and Special Agent Andy Lister. They of course are based on Booth and Brennan, much the same way that Castle’s characters Jameson Rook and Nikki Heat are based on himself and Beckett. (Now to just get McGee’s novels, written as Thom E. Gemcity, made into a movie.)

Lucy Liu Cast as Watson in Sherlock Holmes Pilot Elementary — CBS

Well, so much for Elementary being simply an American remake of Sherlock! Having a woman play the role of Watson is sure to make Elementary a very different show. Farewell to bromance. Hello to will-they-or-won’t-they tension typical of Bones, Castle, and the like. Or maybe the show will adopt Warehouse 13’s buddy partnership to make room for Adler. Will Moriarty try to sweep Watson off her feet to get to Sherlock?

My initial opinion of the idea is that the show will either lose too much of its uniqueness by making Elementary similar to other procedurals, or try too hard to “reinvent” Holmes and Watson that it becomes a caricature.

Giancarlo Esposito Joins Revolution — NBC, J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke

This is the second reoccurring character from Once Upon a Time who has landed a role in a pilot. Here’s hoping that they’re able to exit the show with purpose if their shows make it to series (or still have time to pop up in Storybrooke occasionally).

By the way, the last name Esposito always makes me think of Castle, which is airing its own fairy tale episode tonight!

Hyperion to Publish Three Original EBooks in Richard Castle’s Acclaimed Derrick Storm Series – Ratings | TVbytheNumbers

I love how there are novels “written” by Richard Castle, even though he’s just a character on a TV show. It’s cool how his Derrick Storm series is being resurrected just as we meet the inspiration for much of the series.

PaleyFest 2012 Cast Panel Line-Up: Revenge, Bones, Once Upon a Time

I find it funny that I could go to this for only one week of the event, and see every show I care about: Community, Once Upon a Time, New Girl, The Office, Bones, and Castle! Community has all of the main cast except Pierce and Troy confirmed, Once Upon a Time has most of the adults on the show, New Girl has the four roommates and Cece, The Office looks to have just about everyone but the new CEO, Bones is also missing the boss but has the rest of the main 6, and Castle has the whole gang!

Colbert Report Suspends Production, Lauralee Bell to Castle

Well, since Castle follows Dancing with the Stars, it’s only fitting that they should have a murder investigation probing the world of reality TV dancing competitions. Lauralee Bell will spoof Paula Abdul in the episode that airs March 19.

Castle Preview — Jennifer Beals, Season 4 Episode 15 and 16

Tonight starts Castle’s annual two-part episode! Previously they’ve featured the FBI and Homeland Security – this time it’s the CIA. And the agent Sophie Turner has a past with Castle – she was his muse before he met Beckett and the inspiration for Clara Strike in his Derrick Storm novels. Jennifer Beals (Turner) answers some questions for TVLine below.

Castle Casts Taylor Kinney in Season 4, Episode 17, Awake Adds Kevin Weisman

I don’t watch The Vampire Diaries, so I don’t know anything about Taylor Kinney, but he also was on the short-lived medical thriller Trauma. And I love the Awake (when is that show ever going to air, anyhow?) casting news in this article – I have only watched a handful of Alias episodes, but gadget guy Marshall was one of my favorite characters.

Castle Season 4 Episode 17 Casting — Sarah Jane Morris

Castle gets its own fairy tale episode! Interesting that this article talks all about the ABC Once Upon a Time connection (the episode is titled “Once Upon a Crime”), but barely mentions Grimm – hello, police investigating a crime where the victim is dressed like Red Riding Hood and was apparently killed by a wolf attack? Straight from Grimm’s pilot, though I’m sure Castle’s storyline will be much different.

And how does this article almost overlook where most people will recognize Sarah Jane Morris from? She’s NCIS’s EJ Barrett!

Castle Season 4 Episode 14 Noir Photos

The noir Castle cast photo has been out for a while, but we’re finally getting a better look at the individual characters in this slideshow of photos. The 1947 flashback episode airs in two weeks (February 6th). It also stars Mark Pellegrino, whose work I’m most familiar with in the North American version of Being Human (he plays Bishop), but he has also had a reoccurring role on other shows, including Supernatural, Lost, and The Closer.
