‘Being Human’ Renewed for a Third Season by Syfy – Ratings | TVbytheNumbers

Only four episodes into season 2, and SyFy has already ordered season 3! SyFy has pushed past BBC America and TNT to become my second “most wanted” cable channel (USA Network still holding onto first place – for now). Looking forward to more Aidan, Josh, and Sally!

Keck’s Exclusives: Heroes Star Breaks Up Office Romance – Today’s News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

Who knew that Jai from Covert Affairs would be the perfect match for The Office’s Kelly? Of course I know it’s just actor Sendhil Ramamurthy guesting on The Office, but it’s fun to imagine.

Netflix less about flicks, more about TV – latimes.com

Interesting look at how Netflix’s model has switched from almost exclusively movies to more than 60% of videos streamed being TV shows. I especially loved the insight on how serialized shows (ones that focus on an overarching story and are best watched in order) are doing well with Netflix, as new viewers can start from the beginning and watch every episode in order. And the service makes TV marathons easy: I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Bones, and Veronica Mars (latter unfortunately not still available via streaming) in rapid succession thanks to Netflix, plus I’m using the service to get my friend hooked on How I Met Your Mother.

I’m also excited about Netflix’s leap into original programming. So far they’ve bought US rights to foreign shows (like Lilyhammer), funded new shows, and ordered new episodes of cult favorites (Arrested Development). This article hints that there are more on the way! What show would you like Netflix to bring back?

‘Awake’ Moves To 10pm Thursday On March 1, ‘The Firm’ Saturday Burn Off Begins Feb 11 – Ratings | TVbytheNumbers

The one promo for The Firm that I saw looked interesting, but once the premiere got such terrible ratings, I didn’t bother to check it out. Why spend my limited TV watching hours on a show that was sure to be canceled, in a genre I typically disliked (legal drama)?

I’m glad one of the more buzz-worthy and critically favorited new shows, Awake, is taking that spot instead. I just hope it won’t suffer from the same poor rating on Thursdays at 10 that The Firm did. I just looked it up – I’ve been anticipating this show since May 2011!

And having repeats of Grimm play until the March 1st premiere of Awake is genius. Both shows have a supernatural element bleeding into a cop show, and hopefully this will bring more viewers to the unexpected success that is Grimm.

Two Beauty and the Beast Pilots: Which One Gets to Keep the Title? – Today’s News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

I’m personally hoping ABC’s version gets the title – it sounds like it will be so much better. What little I’ve seen of Linda Hamilton’s Beauty and the Beast kind of scares me.

TV Pilots for 2012-2013 Season — ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, The CW

Wow, TV Line has outdone themselves with this comprehensive list of ordered pilots for next season. Even though these pilots mean that other shows will be canceled, it’s fun to imagine and predict what next season will look like on the various networks.

The article starts with definitions of the various terms surrounding pilot season. The ones that most intrigue me are planted pilots and second position. Second position was responsible for the cast change on New Girl – when actors of bubble shows film pilots, but if their current show is renewed, the new show has to recast the role.

Planted pilots introduce a new show within the world of a current show. The article sites The Finder episode on Bones last season, but many shows do this, though the new show doesn’t always get picked up (for example, when Jess left Gilmore Girls, the episode where he meets his California family was supposed to become a spinoff show). Today’s most-watched scripted drama, NCIS, had a planted pilot on JAG, and in turn hosted a planted pilot for NCIS: Los Angeles.

I plan to write another article going into more detail about the networks’ various pilots, but one thing did sadden me about this list: no Joss Whedon projects.
